  18. this, but I feel that I need to get
  19. this message across to as many like
  20. minded people as I can.  You may
  21. have already noticed that I've
  22. posted news about this at my website
  23. Retroaction, but now I need your
  24. help to pass on this message.

  26. We all like our retro games in one
  27. way or another and the magazines
  28. that came with them have a fond
  29. place in our heart (check out my
  30. Back in Time for April 1990 to see
  31. how much I love these classic mags)

  36. You may know that these magazines
  37. have been slowly getting preserved
  38. on websites like World of Spectrum

  43. Out-of-Print Archive

  47. That's great, eh?  However, a small
  48. handful of thieves are taking these
  49. scans, passing them off as their own
  50. work and selling them on at a
  51. profit.  Thieves, yes, because, not
  52. only is this illegal (as the
  53. copyright remains with the original
  54. publisher), but they don't have the
  55. permission of the person who scanned
  56. them.
  57.  
  58. You may have come across the name
  59. Mort when reading about magazine
  60. scans.  He's the dedicated guy who
  61. has put ten years of his life into
  62. scanning and preserving the likes of
  63. Crash, Zzap!64, Mean Machines, ACE,
  64. C&VG, CU Amiga, Commodore User and
  65. much more.  It's mostly his work -
  66. which, I must stress, is hosted free
  67. on World of Spectrum and Amiga
  68. Magazine Rack - that is being
  69. leeched here.  So with the only cost
  70. being the blank DVDs, these sellers
  71. are making between 5.00 and even up
  72. to 30.00 profit on each auction.
  73.  
  74. Well, we think enough is enough and
  75. it's time to hit back.  Remember,
  76. these people have no permission to
  77. sell these scans and don't even have
  78. permission from the person who
  79. scanned them.  I've already reported
  80. around 30 auctions from four
  81. different sellers.  Yes, 30 auctions
  82. from 4 sellers.  However, we all
  83. know that this is just the start.
  84. eBay may ignore this as a one off
  85. and just warn the seller.  That's
  86. where you come in.  If you were a
  87. huge fan of these magazines, and
  88. appreciate the amount of work done
  89. to preserve them, then you owe it to
  90. yourself to report these copyrighted
  91. infringing auctions.

  93. To make reporting the auctions that
  94. little bit easier I have included
  95. their user ids, links to their
  96. auctions and example reporting
  97. descriptions.

  99. eBay has a long winded reporting
  100. system, but don't let that put you
  101. off.  Here's what I've been
  102. reporting these DVDs as, but feel
  103. free to use your own method.  To
  104. help the cause, feel free to send
  105. this announcement on to like minded
  106. people.
